As far as Nissan is concerned, the future is – actually, last year. If you haven’t heard, the Japanese automaker introduced a prototype vehicle called the BladeGlider at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show. The BladeGlider is tentatively planned to begin production by mid-2014. If you haven’t seen this car of the future, its unique design does not compromise its practicality on the roadway. In fact, Nissan claims better aerodynamics and handling as a result of how the vehicle is structured. Yeah, this is one cool car you don’t want to miss!
If our unabated enthusiasm about this car doesn’t convince you, keep reading (and take a peek) – you’ll convince yourself.
It has a 30:70 front-to-rear weight ration as the lithium-ion battery is installed near the rear and is accompanied by an electric motor housed in each wheel well, a motor design which allows for more torque-vectoring (more power and acceleration). Wait – you say with great apprehension – won’t that weight distribution cause the car to lift or even flip? Put your worries to bed because a series of underbody diffusers manages to generate enough downforce to keep the front end on the road.
A centralized pilot’s chair and a pair of passenger seats mounted behind it that put the BladeGlider within the periphery of real-world use. Upward-swinging, semi-butterfly doors provide access to the interior, but it’s the display and dashboard that have the wow-factor. The steering wheel and column is fashioned aircraft-style, and the displays possess an L. Ron Hubbard charm highlighted by a blue tint.
All-in-all, the Nissan BladeGlider, even with further modifications, will truly be a unique and attention-arresting sight.
