2014 Nissan Rogue Merits Commendation from IIHS

Nissan has, in recent months, behaved much like the overachiever in class. The Japanese automaker thrives off of being called upon to discover answers, doesn’t care about what its competitors think, and continually receives above average grades: all for the consumer’s benefit.

While we’ve lately extolled Nissan’s electric fleets reaching Bhutan and Amsterdam and stared longingly at concepts like the Nismo, other models have received stellar commendations from agencies like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (say that five times fast). We would be terribly remiss if our team didn’t give equal praise for the Rogue – neglecting this good news would merit Stephen Colbert’s “Wag of the Finger.”

The IIHS announced today that the redesigned 2014 Nissan Rogue earned the Top Safety Pick Plus due to its superior safety and performance during a collision. The crossover received a “good” score in all five test categories that included moderate and small front overlap, side, roof strength, and head restraints. In order to warrant a “good” rating for the small overlap test, a driver’s space must be well-maintained and injury measures of the crash-test dummy must indicate low risk of severe injuries.

To define it, a small overlap crash occurs when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or object.

The IIHS also issued a statement with regards to that Rogue, saying that it is “an improvement over the previous generation… The new Rogue offers an optional forward collision warning system, a first for the model.”

The 2014 Nissan Rogue’s safety design features side and dual air bags, side impact door beams, electronic stability control, electronic brake distribution, emergency brake assist, traction control, 3-point seatbelts, head restraints, and an anti-lock braking system just to name a few. While it should come as no surprise that, based upon those features, the Rogue scored so well, the IIHS’ award reinforces the safety and reliability of the brand.

This news is just another reason to stop down at Leith Nissan in Cary to speak with one of our brand specialists about an entire line of quality vehicles.
