Taxi Electric Expands Its Zero-Emissions Service Fleet with a New Nissan

A few weeks ago, we wrote a blog about Bhutan’s commitment to a zero-emissions government fleet and taxi service. The Bhutanese leadership fulfilled this promise through purchasing a great number of Nissan LEAFs, the Japanese automaker’s full-electric vehicle.

Today, it is our pleasure to write about a progressive taxi company based in Amsterdam. Founded in 2011 by Ruud Zandvliet, Taxi Electric became the first private taxi service to utilize a fleet of only electric vehicles – 25 Nissan LEAFs to be exact. In its first three years of business, Nissan and Taxi Electric report that the company has amassed more than 932,000 trouble-free miles.

Mr. Zandvliet found that the LEAF is “extremely reliable” and stated that his company has grown so rapidly that, at this point, it has doubled its fleet since it began. With such growth, Taxi Electric hopes to expand its business by diversifying the vehicles it utilizes in service. The company will now be the first green-fueled, zero-emissions fleet to add the Nissan e-NV200.

The Nissan e-NV200 is designed to operate as a taxi, and Amsterdam will not be the only location to use them once global production begins in May. Nissan is working with the city of Barcelona, which signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the e-NV200 as a taxi in the Spanish region.

Nissan may be the most exhilarated about the new deals. Executive Vice President Andy Palmer expressed his confidence in the automaker’s full-electric capabilities because Taxi Electric “covered an astonishing distance in their fleet in such a short time and have shown just how reliable our electric technology is in a demanding environment.”
